Spurs Strike Back, Win Game 3 115-111 — Knicks Still Lead NBA Finals 2-1

The New York Knicks’ flawless run through the 2026 NBA Finals hit its first speed bump on Monday night at Madison Square Garden. The San Antonio Spurs, facing the very real threat of a sweep, came out desperate and dialed in — and walked out of the Garden with a 115-111 win. New York still leads the series 2-1, but for one night, the building was quiet in a way it hasn’t been all postseason.

Give San Antonio their due — this was the game of a team with its back against the wall. They got hot from three, won the loose-ball battles, and took away the easy looks that New York had been feasting on all series. The Knicks fought back in the fourth quarter and had a couple of looks to tie or take the lead late, but the shots that fell so often in Games 1 and 2 just didn’t fall tonight.

Look — even the great ones drop one on this stage. A 2-1 lead with a chance to close it out at home in Game 4 is still about as good a spot as a team can ask for. If anything, this one might be exactly what New York needed: a reminder that San Antonio isn’t going to hand anything over, and that the last three wins of a championship are always the hardest.

27 years of waiting doesn’t end on a Monday in the Garden — but it can end on a Wednesday. The Knicks get right back at it in Game 4, still in the driver’s seat, still one step closer than anyone they’re playing. Onward. 🗽🏀🔵🟠
