After one of the uglier weekends of the early season — swept in both ends of a Sunday doubleheader by the Colorado Rockies, getting shut out in Game 2 — the New York Mets came out at Citi Field tonight against the Washington Nationals and got the win they absolutely needed.
It doesn’t matter how pretty it was. In a stretch where losing was becoming a habit, stopping the skid is the priority. The Mets did that tonight and the energy around this team can reset heading into the rest of this week.

The Nationals are not a dangerous opponent but that almost made tonight more important — there is nothing more damaging to a team’s confidence than losing to teams you’re supposed to beat. The Mets avoided that tonight. They showed up, played clean baseball, and walked away with two points in the win column.
Four game losing streaks happen in a 162-game season. Good teams break them fast and don’t let them become six or eight. Tonight was step one of the reset.
LGM. Back in the win column. 🔒
